The Big Fat Lie

Assalamualaikum Readers!

My name is Eppalonian, I am a housewife in my mid to late 30s, with a past profession as a mental health therapist and clinical supervisor. Being in the mental health profession, I would like to call myself a very observative person; but what I have witnessed from the world within only the past several years, I think calls for examination, context and perspective. For starters, I developed this blog to express personal thoughts, opinions and perspectives, that are my own, as I do not represent any business or entity other than myself and should not be seen as anyone’s representative. With that being said, I have noticed our dunya as becoming more seemingly incredibly insincere, dishonest, and disturbing by the week. For example, I am not in the minority of people that struggle to watch the news, as it is now a feat to avoid seeing on any broadcast geocidal atrocities, fights, murders, misleading stories and of course the talking heads. I must admit, about three years ago, I warded off the talking heads, as cable TV became less pertinent in my life. I almost instantly noticed a change in my demeanor, where I became more calm and less anxious, with $59.99 additional dollars in the bank.

While I truly have no desire to be political on this blog, as I value polite discord, too many trolls would feel too safe putting 8% effort toward disproving all my perspectives. Either way, for those who pay attention and have successfully made it to this level on their own, you can see that this world is not for the faint at heart. I am constantly making dua for me and all my loved ones to stay on the right path. Disinformation could potentially cause any human being with a heartbeat to walk the path of being too far astray. One quick example could be that of a person who is known to have an opinion on children, they love them and might even be a parent; but disinformation could lead this same person to fund, enjoy and even to celebrate agendas that are contrary to the development of children. To be said nicely, I have seen propaganda slowly skew an individual’s opinion.

It was not until recently when I began writing and illustrating my second book “Emma Heard a Tall Tale” that I learned just how far the media goes to mislead. George Orwell was an author and journalist that was born in 1903, such a long time ago! In 1949 he released a novel entitled 1984, that basically explored how a dystopia could result if propaganda were to be used in a manner that would intentionally mislead the masses. Unfortunately, I fear that this could potentially become a very difficult reality. Unlike the 1940’s and 1950’s today’s average American, seems to struggle more than ever before with.

· Lack of education and over-information, leading to ignorance.

· Disinterest and isolation, leading to being ambiguous and disengaged.

· Loudness, lewdness and indecency, leading to anger.

· Poverty, trauma and devastation, leading to hopelessness.

· Various spectrums, drug epidemics, and mental illness, leading to confusion.

· Free thinking (while ignorant), questioning, lack of safety and uncertainty, leading to disbelief in God.

With all these variables, to keep in mind, it is now wonder why so many of us struggle to decipher what is real these days. So how can we make sense of what is true? Engage in education, utilize sources that you have never used before, consider the fact that there are other perspectives other than your own. Finally, remember that it is possible that your ability to think freely and with your own interests in mind could be slowly slipping away, as our inalienable right.
